Terra Lightfoot Is A Unique Band Embracing Elements Of Pop, Country and Saucy Love Ballads

I first discovered Terra Lightfoot from the single, No Hurry. I was quite impressed by the songs up-beat tempo and vocals I find unique. The song has no consequences when you enjoy the powerful vocals passionately exclaiming there is No Hurry. The song lyrics remind you of a love ballad. Showing us a very troubled affair that can’t escape from your mind. The song claims that they have an eternity to spend together so it is no hurry. Enjoy the time that is spent with each other even though there are troubles on the path.

Their latest album “New Mistakes”, Terra Lightfoot release a video for their song, “Ruthless”. This single compared to No Hurry has more of a slowed tempo with elements of country. The lead singer hits a falsetto as she sings about her hard-core love she have for someone. The visuals for this song has her in a room by herself strumming a guitar. Walking through a snow-storm. The video shows her band members absent and she sits down as memories of them play on a dated B&W television. Could this song be expressing the love she has for her band members and them not being there.

Paying R-E-S-P-E-C-T To Iconic Singer Aretha Franklin

Aretha has a soulful sound that is defying to our human ears. I do not even think our current generation ears will be use to hearing a sound very pure and powerful. Her singing can command people as if she was to stand atop a mountain summit giving a speech of woman empowerment. When hearing people like her, you wonder where did the soul go in most of our people today. During the civil rights era that took place her break out record was recorded over Otis Redding Respect. People marched and riot to that song. The song she made reflected an out-cry that most African-Americans wanted during that time. Respect for our rights being here on US soil. She sung at Martin Luther King speeches, helping Doctor King raise the spirits of the people fighting the injustice they were going through at that time.

Being an artist bred out of Motown, she had a street named after her in our great city Detroit. Close to Detroit’s Music Hall of Performing Arts, where other acts perform at still on this day. She is an inspiration for people that are faced with trial and tribulations they had coming up. She let the gifts god gave her shine through on the day we reckon of riots and destroying community property in Detroit. She has been a great gift in the eyes of other people. She stood for being a woman of power. Fighting for the rights owed to you as a human being. Coming from a broken family home, she did not let that stop her in sharing who she was and what she stood for.

Soundcloud and Independent Artist

Soundcloud is one of the best platforms the music scene has been graced with. Allowing for independent acts to market themselves at a budget that is inexpensive. We have seen many acts blow in recent times thanks too the power of Soundcloud.  The major downside too Soundcloud is that it offers no powerhouse features that can help a person grow their rate. I think Soundcloud intention was to have a place for artist too drop their music on. Instead artist are choosing on the use of major streaming platforms. In the rat race of streams, Soundcloud decided to cater more toward an artist budget and connections. Also the way Soundcloud is set up, we ask ourselves, “why is the what is trending page on Soundcloud identical to the last five songs I heard on my radio station.”. This platform should sprinkle a little more to independent artist and not a record label.

I think artist these days are seeking interaction between one individual to another. If Soundcloud added a feature allowing other independent  artist to work with another independent artist in a project file. Fan bases would grow at a rapid rate, endorsing a open creative space and the middle finger too record label budgets. Also the app in it self  seems a bit clunky, it is not as intuitive as it can be and it is harder too find one of my favorite artist on the grind.

With music having a lot of variety and sub-genres. I think adding a sub genres page would be beneficial for a lot of artist. Right now, Soundcloud is over-filled with struggle bed room artist that has over one-hundred likes. It makes it hard for a talent scout too put together a project. Finding people that are even worth the time. The struggle artist I am talking about are over Youtube beats and no hopes of talent. I think if this platform can figure out a way for people to filter out good content, the independent scene will skyrocket for many artist. I do not think it is a good idea for me to be able to buy likes and follows for people to even consider my art good. When in reality it is over-inflated numbers doing the job for me.

I think the up-side too this platform is that it is great start for pushing yourself out there. It is a free outlet after-all. But if I am a consumer choosing too upgrade, I should have a marketing kit at my finger tip and more leads to other independents in my scene. Upgrading on this platform should help give artist a platform to push their talent out even further.

T / / E O is back at it again with another Trill mix

T / / E O brings us another Dj Mix that resonates on a different wave this time. This one starts out more percussion driven. Still it has a laid back atmosphere Bizniz starts off with. This vibe brings about a ride around and smoke box in your moms mini van. T / / E O always blends his music together perfectly. I would say the first half of this mix is more instrumental based. Sacrificing the vocals for more ambiance. This DJ Mix is for the person that lights their spliff. While they take a load off their mind as the music plays with their thoughts dialogue.

Saajtak & Racehorses gave Detroit an Motown throw down at Trixies

The art rock community still give us music Motown can be proud of.  How can our natives not be proud of bands like RacehorsesAreResources and Saajtak.  They give Detroit out the box music we can not help but appreciate. Racehorses started the night out with low end rumble you can feel in you’re chest. The synths and baselines reminded me of sound designs that came off Vince staples recent album Summer Time 09.  Music that would be in an anarchist ethos demeanor as they cause mass mayhem throughout the streets on a dark night, ready to kick down doors and pillage n****a’s neighborhoods.

Dylan Greene & Henry Birdsey gave a shredding Rock performance I really enjoyed. Their aggressive performance made me stand on a chair to catch the magnificence that was going on.  Ever have the urge to burn a flag, this is the band that will surely ready to have you break, destroy and throw a Molotov halfway cross the sky.

Saajtak is absolutely stellar as always, Alex Koi vocals always amaze me over the electronic vibes that be the backdrop of their music. I am a fan of high octave powerhouse singers over beautiful triumph beats. They are always pushing the boundary through sonic perspective and music.

bands so majestic you can not help but to stare when they grace the stage…
