Afro Samurai is the cartoon that I recall being the first Anime that had rap culture in it. Afro Samurai embraced rap music, staring Samuel L Jackson as one of the main characters. Having a black samurai raise his blade against other opponent just to fight the character Justice. An antagonist who killed his father so he can obtain the number one headband. Rza had production credit for this Anime as well.
Hip-hop culture also appeared in Manga’s like Naruto and Samurai Champaloo. Naurto had Killer Bee, a Jinchuriki that raps any chance he gets. Samurai Champaloo having Dj scratches as apart of their show stylistics. Anime started to hold cultural structure in our genre of music. The two cultures started dancing with hip-hop for sometime, creating a new breed of rap artistry.
People that we’re infatuated with hip-hop culture and Anime started making AMVS. A short collage of fight scenes with a hip-hop music bed. The most popular AMV currently is Naruto Vs Sasuke final fight, Suicide Boys plays as the two collide. AMVS are used for cool promotional visuals for songs. The anime world has a lot of story-lines revolving around; drama, romance, family ties and vengeance. Why not have a genre that has the street struggle and glory: embrace these type of story lines.
I can name a bunch of rappers that used Anime as apart of there music and image. One of the most popular I can remember is Lupe Fiasco. By nature being a skateboarder, he became etched into the fabrics of nerd core hip-hop. Lupe has always been known as a fan of street-fighter. Rapper Rob Bank$ heavily embraces Anime and rap culture. His lyricism centers around Anime references. Comparing himself to cracking seals like the Akatsuki, the way one would crack seals on promethazine.
Growing up in a predominate black school getting reduced lunch as a young kid. We all use to trade Yu-Gi-Oh cards and talk about Dragon Ball Z. I remember fights use to break out over Yu-Gi-Oh and we played that game like we was playing at the gambling house. I had homies that use to hustle out Yu-Gi-Oh cards during morning time. It got real over that game, we all use to meet up just to play during breakfast and lunch. I remember when our cards had got confiscated, we use to creep in the teachers room when she was not there. Just to steal all are sh*t back that got taken away from us. I always thought the confiscation rule was a load of bullSh*t. In my opinion it was another form of stealing. Fast forward down the line, we all grew into our now early twenties and are still going hard for Anime world.
Max Payne is a video game franchise that blew up so big it had to be turned into a movie. Imagine a man running around New York city. Finding the people who killed his family. An Ex-copped turned into a gun-slinging vigilante, on a con-quest with two dessert eagles in a New York underworld. This being the side effect of the street drug Valkyrie. This drug has took the streets by storm. The test subjects that were sent to kill his family we’re users of this drug. The person that manufactured the drug sent them in to annihilate his family. Max Payne’s wife, Michelle Payne found out entitles that helped pushed this street drug.
Max Payne’s world is a noir romantic inspired video game with dramatic elements. The game has undertones of a twisted dark society New York does not know about, that involves a very dark life. This world spirals a man on the hunt, blowing bosses, occultist and even restaurant owners heads off. Max Payne has been face to face with contract killers. One of which is Mona Sax, only for her to turn around and fall deeply in love with him. Preventing him from being murdered.
He always is known as a person that saves the damsel in distresses. Max has been known to ruminate on his past surrounding Mona Sax. The two always meet up together, guns blazing through New York. One has an affiliation tie to no one. Mona Sax motive is strictly business. Max Payne, is a person that is all personal. His mission in this video game are personal infused with no money put into his pocket. Just vengeance for the pain he felt for the loss of his family.
I was impressed behind the cinematic story-line this game has always portrayed. The game was so successful it had became a movie. Grossing at-least 85 million world wide. The movie embraces the same noir style elements the game did. Showing Max in a world we’re Valkyrie is a drug used to enhance super-soldiers. Max answers the call of a vigilante by killing those that are involved on his discovery for who is responsible. The movie was such a success it has grossed 85 million dollars world wide. I myself enjoyed the movie a lot.
The person that went into making such a kick-a** video game is Sam Lake. We commend you Sam Lake for penning such an amazing game. It has resonated so deeply with us as an audience we wanted it as an a movie. In my opinion, the origins of Max Payne reminds you of someone like, Punisher. A marvel super-hero. Same concept of a vigilante roaming the streets in order to protect the morals that they stand for. Either way it goes. This video game will be a classic that will every one will remember.
It is a lost dream in a place where divorce happens quite frequently. We believe we are strong enough to bare so much weight on our own shoulders. Can you believe in a context within society that says if you are an a**hole, you are more attractive. The nerve of people right ? When in reality the law of attraction pays off and you attract more people that bleeds the same a**holeishness as you. Some people I had a conversation with say that they are jealous of the people that they been together with since high school. I was one of those people who shared the same sentiment.
Can you imagine living up to sixty-years. Old in the face and grey in the hair ? Not knowing the true definition of love in a stable foundation. Only to be left alone old and sick, without no support. Of course, you do not want someone there for you just so your needs can be taken care of. You want someone there for you because they chose to fight through the storm with you. I want a significant other who is willing to walk on my battles with me. A friend and a confidant who I can lean on. Someone who I can slow down the outside world with, cause our world is filled with kindness and infection. Who wants to have something unstable in their life ? In the end I know where this will lead me. Down a road with no one who does not really care. People who are here just to use, not utilizing each others full potential in order to succeed for an ultimate goal consistent of; happiness, financial security, for an successful outcome beyond eons of my generation.
It is tough being an independent artist coming up in whatever genre you are doing. Especially with promotion being a key-factor with what is going on today. I believe one of the benefits of being an artist on the come-up is the authenticity you put into your grind work. Going to open mics, meeting with different acts and communicating the art you made. I believe there is beauty in being independent that can not be replicated. Most people want what is real. I can’t lie, I can not stand someone fake who portrays something to me that is not in the realms of their reality.
When being an artist on the grind. I believe genuine interaction in your community is the most important aspect to be put on. If I sat back and thought about most artist careers. Mines is the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and even Lil B. All these artist represented something that most artist are missing. Not instantaneous super-stardom, the grind work into being an artist performing, interviewing and making their last the best impression
What goes on the wild west that we call social media. It has not gone through a balance and check system to determine if it is good or not. I think it is a bit problematic when anybody are able to have a voice. It is easy to find others to agree with your opinion when it is not the truth. I think corporations still have a huge benefit for a person that creates content. When a corporation steps in, it has to go through a check and balance system that has to be seen as profitable and a big success to even hit the big screens. I am not saying that when a corporation puts their hand in the pie it becomes better. Sometimes raw artist are better when they are pure: left in original form.
Social media allows different view points into are lifestyle. Which can cause a positive impact or even a negative one, depending on the voice. Also social media is representative as close to real life as it gets. When determining social media as a place of entertainment it can cause depression. For the person making it or even the person viewing it. I think what makes people gravitate on commercial products is that you know it is official. It has a trusted name brand attached to it that is known for delivering the highest level quality product possible to its consumer. I know in my mind, I will not see a pro neo-nazi television show become an entertainment platform on HBO like it has on Redit. In this day in age, allowing every one to have a voice is great. But when we over-consume social media, we lose our taste on good content.
With the corruption happening inside of the Republican party: Donald Trump continues to lose in public favor. MTV has had enough and decide for a political stance. Urging our younger demographics to rage out in the voting booth. As we have felt powerless for a long time, MTV as a media outlet chose to emphasis the control voting has. Although their stance is not bias, it is favoring Democrats efforts into alluring more young adults into voting. MTV plans to bring in about one-thousand people to take a vote. MTV even has support by people of political power, channeling investments into their pockets. This will also increase the strength of the stance they are taking.
With Donald Trump not giving a F**** about global issues and mining the world out of precious resources. While also, blaming immigrants for the reason America is losing, when some of had to work and they came here with nothing. Trump also added Salt in the womb. The Me Too movement that is happening right now, highlighted him as a president in the past downplaying woman as sexual objects. This man is the reason why we are failing as a country. We was outraged on social media and did not to take a stand to vote, in the end we failed. MTV wants this generations voice to be heard for an impact that will save us for the times of tomorrow. MTV as an outlet believes in people being their authentic selves. Embracing unity and diversity in our fifty-states we live in. This media company has always been the strength of what is popular. Take a stand with our countries favored media outlet and go vote today.
Bubblerap is an artist that hails from London. She garnered an audience in music after releasing songs that gave the internet a frenzy. Her sound is a mix of lo-fi with the skeletal body of Erykah Badu and Curtis Mayfield. I would put her music in a realm where Aquemini and Common’s Like Water For Chocolate had a baby then birthed her creations. Sprinkled in lo-fi mixes that would make a smoked out college dorm seem like heaven between two lovers. Bubblerap music is for the backdrop of a person that does not want to deal with useless rumination between partners. They simply want to enjoy a natural gift the universe has brought them together to enjoy: relaxing in a bed of Daffodils watching clouds pass them by.
The song that caught my attention of this artist was the song, “Other Side Of The Game”. The song remixes Erykahs Badu song, “Other Side Of The Game”. There are still noteable differences that separates her from contemporaries. With her Reverb soaked vocals that creates a vibe giving you imagery of water drops. Making a romantic condensation forming on your window seal. Her producer Eun makes sure to bring the elements of her vibe full circle. The slowed down production enunciating the keys played in the original sample, did this track justice. You can check the song out below and follow her on Instagram at demaemae.
