When not having a pot to piss in, you’re back is against the wall. The walls that are caving in on thy back, slowly falling back with the gravel mid-air. You have to make sixteen ways to eat and forty ways to breath. You instantly awaken the will-power to survive. The will power to swim through the sides that are soon to meet you on the fall. You will not let the tides take you down stream without a fight. On the fall you strap yourself onto the rocks that are falling with you before you drop. Praying you do not sink on the fall.
Splash ! As soon as you hit the currents with the rocks. You being on this massive bolder lessened the impact of the crash. Yo body is not shattered. As you fall into the deep abyss you see the light as you stare up. You swim upward seeking the light for survival. You made it out of the shallow murky water that even octopuses, massing to the size of New York got swallowed by. Crying because you swim with no compass. Not knowing when the destination ahead will be your escape. You just know, the past is in hindsight and the future is now. You keep swimming and hoping until your body has met the sea shore.
Napalm Spot went out and got some unique footage of Oluto performing his single, Truly Feel. The song is a mix of neo-soul with new school funk. He delivers soft RNB vocals over the instrumental, showing to his deep love interest to be yourself. The sentiment of this song is to be the realest you possible. What is in the darkness will come to light, the old school saying our grandparents use to say. Oluto breaks into a monologue discussing how he can appeal to the masses while keeping it honest. A hard thing that most people can not express in human interaction, check the music video out below.
Walking into the lounge I was with my homies. We had met up with some of the set performers. I sat and chat with the people around the venue. My homie interrupted my conversation with a full glass of beer, telling us about how well treated the artist here are. I walked around scoping the place as Black Moon Child played her set. The place was very elegant, showing an up-scale lifestyle. Nothing of the average is seen here. People that we’re bosses and artist that has a style of experimentation. I had to go and get me a drink myself. Before getting myself a drink, I had caught a quick conversation with Nuntheless.
His mission is to bring out anybody that has not played a live set that embraces a totally unique style. He said the scene here in Detroit can kind of get cliquish, isolating artist from not having their time to shine. He started out being a producer then evolving into a DJ. It all started when Omar was out of town, that is when his ideas started brewing like the cold refreshing beer in this lounge. He exclaimed networking is a big element to have in Detroit and he utilize that for an advantage. Having a venue with all the talent he knew, infused within the elegant style that Detroit embraces. Nuntheless is a; producer, DJ, drummer, and even a pianist. You can check out some of the highlights below.
A negative mind can keep a person in the rut. As someone as myself, when I experience negative thinking, I experience negative self. Which creates a will for not being able to do. Have you ever been so down, you begin to question what you got going on. It affects your personal growth heavy. Why mess up the hustle you got going on when you have everything you need right in front of you. When thinking on what we do not have. It creates a lot of whys? When we need to create an now. A now on what we have. As cliche as it sounds, respect what you have and are. Then the things that you have will respect you more.
The rumination I have on my past. Sitting back looking at people around me have their own way. Me, still feeling stagnate on what I could have more of. Sometimes people say, switch what you do if it originally does not work for you. Which in some cases can be true. I believe, it is all in taking advantage for a growth. A growth that is so powerful only you and god are going to witness this personal evolution. Then that is when new gates of opportunity will open. New respect on a new found vision because you seen were you been at in the past.
Darkseid was created by Jack Kirby for his New Gods series that aired in 1970. Darkseid is a god in Apokolips, controlling people eliminating the power of free will. Darkseid strength was able to go against Super-Man and The Holy Genesis. Darkseid rules with an iron fist over Apokolips. Even after being brutally beaten by Super-man and tossed down to his nation. The people mobbed around him looking like they we’re ready to attack. Instead Super-man exclaims, Darkseid is finish, you may do your will to him. Instead, they pick him up then carried him off into his kingdom. Only to halt his people, so he can tell Super-man that he is a god to his people. Darkseid has eyes that are melting to the flesh. No literally, he can stare at you and melt any human who stands in his way. Super-Man was almost killed because of Darkseid power. Instead, Super-man grabbed gravel off the ground then shoved it into Darkseid’s face until the room imploded from the two opposing power-forces.
Darkseid would be comparable to Madara. Both have special eye gifts that grant them unnatural abilities in their universes. Both characters have a will to control all of man kind. Believing that their control will make all of humanity better. The confidence inside of both characters come from many of hard battles. Darkseid battled against The New Genesis, waging war until a truce was finally called. Making alliance’s by exchanging their first born within their family heir. Madara has the same kind of method. Fight a bloody war until the last one victors out on top. The difference between the two, Madara’s intentions are completely passionate. With the loss of his little brother, Izuna , he lost all sanity. Both sides suffered causalities losing a family member of their own. Darkseid was purely ego, he wanted to rule all of the universes with his will. Darkseid is considered the God Of Evil in the DC Universe.
I first discovered Terra Lightfoot from the single, No Hurry. I was quite impressed by the songs up-beat tempo and vocals I find unique. The song has no consequences when you enjoy the powerful vocals passionately exclaiming there is No Hurry. The song lyrics remind you of a love ballad. Showing us a very troubled affair that can’t escape from your mind. The song claims that they have an eternity to spend together so it is no hurry. Enjoy the time that is spent with each other even though there are troubles on the path.
Their latest album “New Mistakes”, Terra Lightfoot release a video for their song, “Ruthless”. This single compared to No Hurry has more of a slowed tempo with elements of country. The lead singer hits a falsetto as she sings about her hard-core love she have for someone. The visuals for this song has her in a room by herself strumming a guitar. Walking through a snow-storm. The video shows her band members absent and she sits down as memories of them play on a dated B&W television. Could this song be expressing the love she has for her band members and them not being there.
Afro Samurai is the cartoon that I recall being the first Anime that had rap culture in it. Afro Samurai embraced rap music, staring Samuel L Jackson as one of the main characters. Having a black samurai raise his blade against other opponent just to fight the character Justice. An antagonist who killed his father so he can obtain the number one headband. Rza had production credit for this Anime as well.
Hip-hop culture also appeared in Manga’s like Naruto and Samurai Champaloo. Naurto had Killer Bee, a Jinchuriki that raps any chance he gets. Samurai Champaloo having Dj scratches as apart of their show stylistics. Anime started to hold cultural structure in our genre of music. The two cultures started dancing with hip-hop for sometime, creating a new breed of rap artistry.
People that we’re infatuated with hip-hop culture and Anime started making AMVS. A short collage of fight scenes with a hip-hop music bed. The most popular AMV currently is Naruto Vs Sasuke final fight, Suicide Boys plays as the two collide. AMVS are used for cool promotional visuals for songs. The anime world has a lot of story-lines revolving around; drama, romance, family ties and vengeance. Why not have a genre that has the street struggle and glory: embrace these type of story lines.
I can name a bunch of rappers that used Anime as apart of there music and image. One of the most popular I can remember is Lupe Fiasco. By nature being a skateboarder, he became etched into the fabrics of nerd core hip-hop. Lupe has always been known as a fan of street-fighter. Rapper Rob Bank$ heavily embraces Anime and rap culture. His lyricism centers around Anime references. Comparing himself to cracking seals like the Akatsuki, the way one would crack seals on promethazine.
Growing up in a predominate black school getting reduced lunch as a young kid. We all use to trade Yu-Gi-Oh cards and talk about Dragon Ball Z. I remember fights use to break out over Yu-Gi-Oh and we played that game like we was playing at the gambling house. I had homies that use to hustle out Yu-Gi-Oh cards during morning time. It got real over that game, we all use to meet up just to play during breakfast and lunch. I remember when our cards had got confiscated, we use to creep in the teachers room when she was not there. Just to steal all are sh*t back that got taken away from us. I always thought the confiscation rule was a load of bullSh*t. In my opinion it was another form of stealing. Fast forward down the line, we all grew into our now early twenties and are still going hard for Anime world.
